Recital Resources

Recital Information for Inquiring Minds

While recital is a lot of fun, it is not required of students. We believe to dance all year and not perform is “like eating cake without the frosting”! Students experience another dimension of dance by being part of recital and gaining all that is learned through the process.

The following is information you may want to know before committing to recital.

  • Dance tuition covers classes and rehearsals at the studio. It does not cover the cost of recital: Theater rental (at an hourly rate), for all rehearsals and shows, liability insurance, theater security and Southern Dance Theatre’s private security, 5 to 6 stage technicians, theater manager, stage manager, custodians, rental of student holding areas (school cafeteria), pay for teachers backstage overseeing dancers, backdrops, U-Haul rental and gas to name a few of the large cost items.
  • Costumes are needed. Costume deposit for extra small child – medium child is $80. Large child – large adult is $90. Extra large sizes have an additional fee. Note these prices are per costume per class. Combo classes only require one costume.
  • Costume deposits are due by November 30th and may be paid in full before this date or in three installments – September 30th, October 30th and November 30th. Costumes ordered after November 30th will incur a late fee of 20% per costume to cover separate shipping expenses and additional processing of the order apart from the main order. There are no refunds or returns on costumes after order has been placed. Tights will be ordered for each class and invoiced in April. Required shoes, style, and color will be decided by January for each class.
  • Due to the cost affiliated with putting on the recital production we must charge for admission.    Pre–Sale Show Tickets are $25 and are available online in April to mid May. When online sales end tickets are $30 in cash at the door. All seating is reserved.
  • Optional expenses for recital include photos, videos, T-shirts, recital flowers and food or drinks at the recital concession stand.
  • Because we have a professional videographer and photographer at the shows, we only allow personal photos and videos at the Dress Rehearsals. Tickets to attend Dress Rehearsal are discounted to $16 and are general admission seating. They are sold at the studio beginning in May cash or check only. They will also be available at the theater the day of Dress Rehearsals CASH ONLY.
  • Please note that once a dancer has committed to recital, they are required to be at all mandatory rehearsals and assigned shows.
  • Recital is the second weekend in June.
    • Show “A” is for Pre Combos, Basic Levels and Dance Movement.
      • Dress Rehearsal Saturday and Show Sunday at 2:00 PM both days.

      • 2 mandatory studio rehearsals – 1 in April and 1 in May.
