Instructor- Ballet

Mia, a native of South Florida, began her dance training at Southern Dance Theatre when she was just five years
old. Over the years, she dedicated herself to studying ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theater and performed in Dancers
Edge Company, under the guidance of the esteemed Penni Greenly.
From 2013 to 2017, Mia received training in Cuban classical ballet methodology at the Art of Classical Ballet &
School of Ballet Arts. Her instructors, Magaly Suarez and Deborah Marquez, provided her with opportunities to
perform in renowned ballets including Paquita, Esmeralda, Giselle, and La Bayadere. She later graduated from
Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts under the guidance of Jan Hanniford. During her time there, she had the
privilege of working with guest artists such as Margo Sappington, Jennifer Archibald, Troy Powell, Christopher
Huggins, Levi Marsman, and Rick McCullough.
While in high school, Mia had the opportunity to tour nationally and perform with Dance Alive National Ballet,
under the artistic direction of Kim Tuttle. As a soloist, she participated in productions such as Midsummer Night’s
Dream, Dracula, The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake.
In 2017, Mia’s skills earned her acceptance into The Juilliard School’s BFA Dance Program in New York. She received
a full tuition scholarship from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation. During her time at Juilliard, she not only advanced
her dance abilities but also dedicated her time to volunteering with the Gluck Community Service Fellowship. In
2018, she became a Group Leader, further contributing to the local community.
In 2019, Mia suffered an ankle injury, prompting her to temporarily shift her focus back to academics. She resumed
her studies online at The University of Florida with a Bright Futures Scholarship.
During her academic pursuits, Mia took on the role of Principal Artistic Director at Dance Open America International
Dance Competition alongside Deborah Marquez in 2021. Under her guidance, the competition expanded
internationally, reaching countries like Spain, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Italy, and Portugal.
In 2022, Mia reconnected with Kerri Fouchet and Lori Morales, the new co-owners of Southern Dance Theatre. She
joined them as an administrative office assistant while also teaching ballet and assisting Jody Sorrels in Dance
Movement, a class catering to teens and adults with disabilities. Additionally, Mia currently teaches creative
movement and ballet to students in grades K-3 at Plumosa School of the Arts in Delray Beach, FL.
Mia continued her academic journey, majoring in Education Sciences with a focus on Disabilities in Society. In May
2023, she proudly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree.
She is thrilled to be a part of the renewed Southern Dance Theatre and is excited to contribute to its new direction.
Returning to the studio that was once her home holds a special place in her heart, and she considers it an honor.
