“A Love Affair: An Evening of Dance to Honor Joan Miller” will be held February 27, 2016 at 7pm at the Countess de Hoernle Theatre at Spanish River Community High School 5100 Jog Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33496.
All tickets, donation, and program message proceeds from this event go toward the care of Palm Beach Ballet Center’s Miss Joan Miller as she lives with Alzheimer’s and are tax-deductible. The Dancer’s Alchemy is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Southern Dance Theatre students will perform at the Florida Youth Dance Gala, along with talented dancers from 17 other dance academies around the state February 13, 2016 at 7:30pm. The internationally acclaimed former New York City Ballet dancer and ballet photographer Steven Caras will join A Love Affair – An Evening to Honor Joan Miller as Keynote Speaker. Steven Caras’ life in the arts began as a dancer with the New York City Ballet.
Southern Dance Theatre is pleased to participate in this important event. All proceeds will go toward the care of Miss Joan MIller, owner and director of Palm Beach Ballet Center for over 50 years. After a life dedicated to her dancers and the dance community, Miss Joan now lives with Alzheimer’s disease and needs our help.
For more than 50 years, Joan Miller was the grande dame of dance in Palm Beach County. Through her Palm Beach Ballet Center, she trained thousands of dancers, including her “stars” who went on to the country’s premiere dance schools and companies, including Julliard, American Ballet Theat…
This show will be held Saturday, February 27th at 7pm at The Countess de Hoernle Theatre at Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida. Congratulations to the Dancer’s Edge Company who represented Southern Dance Theatre at the Delray Beach Holiday Parade. We won for the Dance/Cheer Category with a total of 280 points awarded by the judges!
Judges used the following criteria, and each judge awarded up to 20 points in each category for a maximum total of 100 points. There were 3 judges, so a combined total of 300 point maximum can be earned over all.
A. THEME: Does the float adequately convey the parade theme of “A Multicultural Holiday”?
B. CRAFTSMANSHIP & LIGHTING: Is the float neat and soundly constructed demonstrating the proper working of mechanical parts and achievement of detail. Is it well-lit and easily seen by spectators?
C. ANIMATION AND SPECIAL EFFECTS: Are any special effects incorporating motion and sound used on and/or alongside the float?
D. PROPORTIONS & PRESENTATION: Can all elements be seen, read, and understood by the public?
E. INGENUITY/ORIGINALITY: Did the team incorporate a unique idea with creative implementation?
F. BAND SOUND (Only applicable to BAND Category): Can the band be heard by spectators?
G. BAND FORMATION (Only applicable to BAND Category): Is the band in uniform and consistent formation?
H. DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY (Only applicable to DANCE Category): Does the dance group/team perform in unison or rhythmically?
I. DANCE COSTUMES (Only applicable to DANCE Category): Are the dance group/team costumes consistent with theme and performance?
