The internationally acclaimed former New York City Ballet dancer and ballet photographer Steven Caras will join A Love Affair – An Evening to Honor Joan Miller as Keynote Speaker. Steven Caras’ life in the arts began as a dancer with the New York City Ballet.

Southern Dance Theatre is pleased to participate in this important event. All proceeds will go toward the care of Miss Joan MIller, owner and director of Palm Beach Ballet Center for over 50 years. After a life dedicated to her dancers and the dance community, Miss Joan now lives with Alzheimer’s disease and needs our help.

This show will be held Saturday, February 27th at 7pm at The Countess de Hoernle Theatre at Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida. Former Student Treyden Chiaravalloti Featured in The Tampa Tribune

‘The Nutcracker’ features local rising dance stars

Two South Tampa ballet Next Generation Ballet students will portray the Snow Queen and the Snow King in a production of “The Nutcracker” Saturday and Sunday featuring Sterling Hyltin and Adrian Danchig-Waring of the New York City Ballet. Tessa Hartmann, 15, and Treyden Chiaravalloti, 17, are students at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

The Impact of Early Childhood Movement

We have seen first hand the importance of movement education for our youngest students for many years.

Linking Literacy and Movement, by Rae Pica, Movement Specialist, explains…

“the cognitive benefits of movement and how young children need to physically experience concepts in order to truly grasp them…Research shows that movement is the young child’s preferred mode of learning – and that children learn best through active involvement.”

It is an excellent read for anyone who wishes to learn more about the fascinating study of how movement impacts early childhood learning.

The following class options are currently available for our early childhood classes (ages 3-5 and 6-7 years) for anyone who wishes to register. Also note that trial classes are available if you’d like your child to try the class before enrolling.
