The internationally acclaimed former New York City Ballet dancer and ballet photographer Steven Caras will join A Love Affair – An Evening to Honor Joan Miller as Keynote Speaker. Steven Caras’ life in the arts began as a dancer with the New York City Ballet.
Southern Dance Theatre is pleased to participate in this important event. All proceeds will go toward the care of Miss Joan MIller, owner and director of Palm Beach Ballet Center for over 50 years. After a life dedicated to her dancers and the dance community, Miss Joan now lives with Alzheimer’s disease and needs our help.

Two South Tampa ballet Next Generation Ballet students will portray the Snow Queen and the Snow King in a production of “The Nutcracker” Saturday and Sunday featuring Sterling Hyltin and Adrian Danchig-Waring of the New York City Ballet. Tessa Hartmann, 15, and Treyden Chiaravalloti, 17, are students at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
Congrats to student Jaden Murphy who received a scholarship from Christopher Huggins to his convention, ASH, which stands for Artists Simply Human! Jaden will be attending in Miami April 29th – May 1st. Classes over the course of the three days range from ballet to hip hop.
Jaden was selected by Christopher while performing in one of his pieces at Dreyfoos. Christopher choreographs all over the world. Though the competition will be challenging, it will be an excellent opportunity!
We’re opening a new ballet and tap combination class for boys and girls ages 3-5. This begins Thursday, January 21st and will run for 18 weeks. Students will have fun learning basic ballet steps and rudimentary tap skills and rhythmic concepts. These theme-based classes are perfect for this age group and are filled with adventure, fun, and the opportunity to interact with new friends!
This class will be held every Thursday from 3:30-4:30pm and all female students will receive a Southern Dance Theatre leotard which is included in tuition.
