Carlos de Barros to teach Modern and Contemporary this Summer

We’re excited to welcome guest teacher, Carlos de Barros, this summer. Carlos will be teaching Modern and Contemporary for Intensive 4.

Carlos de Barros received his (BFA in Dance), with honors, from the University of Florida/New World School of the Arts (NWSA) collaborative dance performance program.  He supplemented his training by attending annual workshops and classes around the country such as The Pulse, The Jazz Dance World Congress and at Broadway Dance Center. Since 2012, he has also completed certifications in Zumba, Piyo, two children’s yoga certification courses, his 200 hour yoga teacher training certification with Haute Yoga in Vinyasa and Yin styles, and is now working on his certified personal training, sports nutritionist, and CPR courses.

Professionally, he danced with many FL based dance companies such as Miami’s American Dance Theatre, Freddick Bratcher and Company, The Palm Beach Festival Ballet and The Demetrius Klein Dance Company. He has performed all over FL and parts of GA, was a guest dancer in an independent music video called Arizona Skies, was a guest performer at The Harriet Himmel and Armory Arts Center for independent choreographer Gina Buntz, he went to Taiwan with The New World Dancers, performed with A Dancer’s Space at The Duncan Theater in 2013 for The American Dance Legacy Initiative’s “Parson’s Etudes,” has been a guest performer for many schools, and on January 6, 2019 he was chosen as the male dancer for a car commercial for Healey dealership in New York.

Carlos was a faculty mainstay and taught all levels of dance, Repertory and Choreography classes at the popular, by audition Bak Middle School of the Arts for 15 years in Palm Beach.  In addition to his tenure at Bak, he has continued to teach for private and public schools around South Florida. He has guest taught at The Miami City Ballet, as a guest dance ensemble choreographer for three semesters at Palm Beach Atlantic University, for New World College Musical Theater, as a guest contemporary modern and yoga teacher in upstate NY, as a guest teacher at the Ft. Myers All County Dance Festival, did a 3-day guest teaching/choreography residency at Cypress Lakes High and a 5-day guest teaching/choreography residency in South Carolina at The Fine Arts Center of Greenville. Carlos has taught all levels of jazz, modern and contemporary at summer intensives and has taught master classes and/or adjudicated for many different dance team and studio based competitions around the country, as well.

From 2013-2017, Carlos accepted new positions to start and direct the full-time dance and yoga programs at a couple of different private schools where he started working with and continues to work with all grades K-12. In August of 2014, he was chosen to participate in a National dance modeling photo shoot for SoDanca’s clothing line that was released in three major dance magazines, and in 2018, he modeled for Alex Lanau’s yoga clothing line. He is now a free-lance dance and yoga teacher, dance conditioning coach, choreographer, model, and dance competition adjudicator. He’s excited to be teaching for Southern Dance’s 2020 summer intensive program!

Summer Intensive 4 Drop In Available – Navy, Purple, and Black levels

Summer Intensive Level 4 Drop In is now available for those in Ballet Levels: Navy, Purple, and Black ages 13-18!
Intensive 4 includes: Ballet with Pointe, Modern (Limon), Contemporary, Jazz and Conditioning
  • Can’t commit to a full intensive or didn’t make it in time to register? No problem. We’ve got  you covered!
  • Drop in for the day for $65.00 cash only
  • July 6-30, 2020
  • 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Things to know and Follow:
  • Dancers must wear masks to enter and exit the building and in the common areas of the studio.
  • Bring a water bottle (labeled with dancer’s name). The water fountain will not be available.
  • Temperatures will be taken and sanitizer will be available for use as dancers enter the building.

Register today – Summer Evening Teen/ Adult Classes

Our Summer Teen Adult Classes begin July 6th through July 30th, 2020. Schedule below:
  • Ballet Mondays at 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Classic Jazz/Musical Theater Tuesdays at 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Hip Hop Tuesday at 7:30 – 8:30pm
  • Tap Wednesdays at 7-8 p.m.
  • Contemporary/Lyrical Thursdays at 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Summer Registration for the 4 week session has been extended through July 1st.
Summer Evening Drop Ins:
  • Call ahead (day off) to drop into a Summer Evening Classes (permitted classes have space): 561-736-9097
  • 1.5 hour class $25 cash only
  • 1 hour class $20 cash only
